🌡️ We may not be able to stay under 1.5°C, but we can still plan for what happens next.
The recent report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) titled “Limiting overshoot: Navigating exceedance of 1.5°C and pathways towards return” tells us that global mean temperatures will unavoidably breach the 1.5°C-threshold, an eventuality that climate scientists have been warning us about for years.
We are no longer grappling with the question of how to prevent the overshoot from happening. Now, we must ask: What are the biophysical implications of overshoot? What are its implications on justice, power, and resilience?
Join us in unpacking this difficult, multi-faceted question in the first session of Climate Conversations: “What Now? Navigating a Post-1.5 World” with our panelists:
Ma. Laurice Jamero, PhD, Senior Scientist for Resilience at Manila Observatory’s Klima Center
Bruce Hewitson, PhD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Cape Town
