This document explains the rationale for the creation of the WCRP Academy, its relevance to the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), and the details of its work plan. The WCRP Academy is described as a new hub for climate science training opportunities, a marketplace that connects people who need climate science training with people and institutions that can provide that training. As the academy will initially operate within the climate science community, the document provides descriptions of the following concepts: climate science, climate scientist, and climate science training.The document also identifies two main categories associated with the Academy: technology risk and engagement risk. These risks are to be mitigated through several measures, including employing a specialist contractor to develop the hub, creating a fitting and effective identity for the Academy, and establishing a clear value proposition for stakeholders.
