Fair interoperability in EOSC and beyond: climate change adaptation and mitigation approach

The purpose of this jointly-organised Climate-Adapt4EOSC and FAIR2Adapt workshop is to engage and exchange information with projects and organisations involved in the development and deployment of climate change adaptation-related, data-driven solutions. The workshop will present a range of case studies and use them as prisms to analyse technical and organisational solutions and approaches. The workshop aims to identify approaches that will make it easier to develop, deploy and maintain data-driven solutions to support climate change adaptation.

The workshop starts with a brief analysis of current climate change adaptation-related research and development activities and the possible roles research data and services could play. The relevance of data-driven solutions will be illustrated by overview presentations of the two projects (FAIR2Adapt and Climate-Adapt4EOSC) that cover the use cases, primary challenges the projects will address and the tools and approaches the projects have chosen to address them.

The approaches will be further elaborated and tested by four use case presentations: two of them presenting the approaches in more detail, and two presentations from projects representing the broader environmental application domain. The goal is to identify areas of common interest, synergies and new opportunities across the projects’ extended stakeholder networks.

The final part of the workshop will discuss the applicability of specific technologies and analytical or operational frameworks in any activity aimed at realising the opportunities. The technologies analysed will include FAIR Digital Objects, Cross-Domain Interoperability Framework, while the relevant frameworks will include the Legal-Organisational-Technical-Semantic (LOTS) categorisation of challenges and solutions as well as IT Service Management approach used by the EOSC Nodes.

The workshop discussions will contribute to the deliverables of both of the organising projects and will provide valuable input to discussions on forums such as European Climate Change Adaptation Conference (ECCA 2025), EOSC Project Coordination event and activities of the EOSC Opportunity Area 2 expert group. The organisers of the workshop will also be present throughout the EGI conference at the joint booth of the two projects.

The session is open to everyone, but requires registration.

Target audience: Undergraduate students, Master’s students, PhD students, Early and mid-career researchers, Senior researchers, Government, Civil society organizations and media
