School and Workshop on Polar Climates: Theoretical, Observational and Modelling Advances
WCRP CLIVAR/CliC NORP and SORP
22 July 2024 – 31 July 2024
ICTP, Trieste, Italy
Seasonal school
In-person
Polar climates are key components of the global climate and have been undergoing rapid and dramatic changes over the past decades.
This activity will emphasize the interactions between the cryosphere, ocean and atmosphere within the polar regions and the impacts of the ongoing changes in the polar regions on the regional and global climate. For each topic covered, both Arctic and Antarctic regions will be discussed by leading experts who will highlight similarities and differences between these regions.
The School will be followed by a Workshop on "The role of sea ice and its variability in the climate system". Applications are accepted for the School and Workshop or the Workshop only. Participants seeking to attend only the workshop, can apply at the following link:
Topics will include:
- Polar hydrography;
- Atmospheric processes and interactions with ocean and cryosphere;
- Ocean-ice sheet interactions;
- Role of sea ice and its changes under global warming;
- Biogeochemical processes and their physical drivers;
- Observational techniques and numerical modelling.
