My Climate Risk (MCR) is a lighthouse activity of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). This aims to develop and mainstream a ‘bottom-up’ approach to regional climate risk, which starts with a better understanding of local contexts and the requirements of decision-makers. Parallel to this, the My Climate Risk Education Working Group (EWG) seeks to collect, curate, and disseminate learnings from the MCR community and beyond that arise from members’ engagement with their publics. Consistent with the aims of MCR and the EWG, this event wishes to highlight the importance of grappling with complexity and making approaches to climate education, research, and advocacy, relevant to local contexts.

This year, the EWG, together with the My Climate Risk - Ateneo de Manila University Regional Hub (MCR-ADMU) and My Climate Risk - University of Cape Town, are organizing a webinar and workshop entitled "Transdisciplinarity and Colonialism in Climate Education." This session will explore the link between these two concepts, posing an epistemological question on transdisciplinarity.

Event Details

12 March 2025 (Wed), 4:00-6:00pm (GMT+8 Philippine Standard Time) via Zoom

The session will be designed to start with short interventions and a conversation between our panelists, Dr Rowena Azada-Palacios of Ateneo de Manila University and Alice McClure of the University of Cape Town, which will then be followed by breakout sessions.

These breakout sessions will provide participants with the opportunity to dissect the links between colonialism and transdisciplinarity, taking inputs from the panelists but also from their own experiences and reflections. At the end of the breakout sessions, groups will be given the chance to share the results of their discussions.

If appropriate, a perspective paper may be crafted, published and circulated as part of ongoing efforts of the Education Working Group to develop pedagogical materials. The recordings of the sessions may also be produced as educational materials for teaching and learning purposes. Any materials created will be circulated with participants and acknowledgements will be made as appropriate.

Interested parties may register directly by clicking this link, or through this link: linktr.ee/MCR_ADMU. Registered participants will be able to enter the Zoom room to view and participate in the session.
